On November 14 and 21, 2020, National Annual Work Conferences for Pilot Program 2.0 in the field of Mathematics, Chemistry, Life Science, and Computer Science are successfully held at Zhiyuan College, Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU). The seminars are conducted online and offline, aiming to promote the implementation and development plans for Training Outstanding Students in the Basic Sciences.

Apart from experts from SJTU, over 100 heads and front-line educators are invited to participate in the conferences. The invited representatives are from over 20 leading universities, such as Tsinghua University, Peking University, Fudan University, Zhejiang University, Jilin University, Nanjing University, Xiamen University, Shandong University. The seminars have carried out in-depth discussion and heated discussion on the talent training ideas and future planning, which will play an important role in optimizing talent-cultivation cause.

SJTU has invited representative scholars from each venue to give keynote speeches on perspectives of talent selection, training methods, cultivation mechanism, future planning proposals etc. to introduce their talent-training progresses and thoughts on how to further promote the pilot program, so as to inspire their counterparts from other universities.

Upon the completions of the keynote speeches, lively round-table discussion sessions are carried out at each venue. Representatives from brother universities had in-depth exchanges on issues such as how to carry out international exchanges during the epidemic period, the platform mechanism for interdisciplinary innovations, various forms of bilingual teaching and their respective advantages, the relationships between top programs and strong foundation programs, and the importance of humanistic literacy in the training of top students.

The experts agreed that our universities shall aim to cultivate outstanding talents with a sense of family, integrity and ability, and strong professional ability, and have solid scientific foundations and broad visions, in order to contribute to the prosperous and developments of our nation in the future. At the end of the conferences, Zhiyuan and invited hosts summarized the key points and highlights of the seminars, and announced the official arrangements for annual seminars of the pilot program, and declared that 2020 Pilot Program 2.0 work conferences were successfully held and completed at Zhiyuan College, SJTU.
