Professor SOW Chorng Haur of Physics at the National University of Singapore (NUS) presented a lecture at Zhiyuan College as part of Zhiyuan’s Global Wisdom Talk series on Oct. 25.
His talk, titled “10-9 Big Opportunities in the infinitesimal,” gave the students an appreciation of the nanosized regime and scientists’ fascination in the field of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology through series of interesting experiments.
Sow is currently serving as the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Science at NUS and the Vice President as well as a Fellow of the Singapore National Academy of Science. He specializes in carbon nanotubes, nanomaterials, and the fundamental studies and applications of 2D materials. He has been honored with the President Medal (2021) and the Nanotechnology Medal (2006) by Institute of Physics Singapore.
Professor HE Feng, Executive Deputy Dean of Zhiyuan College, welcomed Sow and reflected on the fruitful ten-year collaboration between Zhiyuan College and NUS on undergraduate research internships.
Before the lecture, Sow also explored the Zhiyuan Innovative Research Center (ZIRC), accompanied by Dr. ZHOU Lian, the center's Deputy Director, and Ms. LI Bing, Director of Cooperation and Exchange. Sow believed that the cutting-edge equipment in the laboratories could provide Zhiyuan undergraduates with excellent research opportunities.
