Juntai Shen, Professor in Astronomy at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, winner of Excellent Youth of National Fund Committee, Newton Advanced Fellow of the Royal Society. He was selected in “Hundred Talents Program” of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and also awarded as Excellent Instructor Award of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Abstract

Why is the 2020 Nobel Prize in Physis awarded to astrophysics again? What is a black hole, and the solid evidence for its existence? How many types of black holes are there in the Universe? Come to this talk and you will find out the answers to these questions.

Bio

Professor in Astrophysics, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Newton Advanced Fellow of the Royal Society of UK (2016-2019). His main research interests are galactic dynamics, dynamical structure and evolution of galaxies, their formation and interaction with dark matter and super-massive black holes. Many of his papers have been cited by internationally renowned textbooks, such as the “Galactic Dynamics” (Binney & Tremaine 2008), “Formation and Evolution of Galaxies” (Mo et al. 2010. He was invited to serve as an expert reviewer for the National Science Foundation of USA, the NSERC grants of Canada, and the Hubble Space Telescope grants and time allocation committee.
