Since the 1970s, physicists have discovered numerous novel quantum phenomena based on two-dimensional electron systems. Milestone experimental discoveries in this field include the integer quantum Hall effect (Nobel Prize in Physics 1985) and the fractional quantum Hall effect (Nobel Prize in Physics 1998). Subsequently, more members of the quantum Hall family have been theoretically predicted and experimentally realized, such as the quantum spin Hall effect and the quantum anomalous Hall effect. In this Chalk Talk, I will briefly introduce the background knowledge of two-dimensional electron systems and the research history of various quantum Hall effects, including the recently experimentally confirmed fractional quantum anomalous Hall effect. I will also provide an outlook on the future prospects of related research topics.
