On January 6, 2023, the China Computer Society (CCF) announced the results of the 2022 "CCF Outstanding Education Award". Professor Yong Yu, Program Director in Computer Science Direction (ACM Class) of Zhiyuan College and Professor of Computer Science and Engineering, School of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering, SJTU won the award.

 

 

The CCF Award for Excellence in Education is given to those who have made outstanding contributions to the educational thinking, teaching methods, teaching, curriculum reform and talent development of computer education, or who have made important contributions to the reform and development of computer education in China.

 

Yu is a professor at the School of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He led the students of SJTU to rewrite history and won the ACM International College Student Programming Competition world champion for three times, stepping on the champion podium that Europeans had dominated for decades. The establishment of ACM Class of SJTU has created a precedent in the education of top-notch computer talents in China and cultivated hundreds of top talents in the field of CS. He is devoted in teaching and education, and has been awarded with National Teaching Achievement Award for 6 times. He has worked at SJTU for 37 years, and has been awarded as National Famous Teacher, National Model Teacher and National Model of Teaching Ethics.

 

Award-winning reason: Professor Yu has taken the lead in actively exploring in the aspect of training CS talents through the breakthroughs of computer programming competitions, and has made outstanding contributions to the training of top-notch talents for our country.
