Recently, the theme forum of "AI Technology-Driven Transformation of Top Talent Training and Innovation of Teaching Mode" jointly organized by Zhiyuan and Yi 'ou Education was held in Zhiyuan College. The forum was carried out in the form of online and on-site integration, aiming to bring together leaders and teachers from well-known universities across the country to jointly discuss the application and practice of AI technology in top-notch talent training and teaching model innovation. Zhou Yongfeng, Secretary of the Party Committee of Zhiyuan College, Shen Hongxing, Director of Education Technology Center, Wang Hongdong, Deputy Director of the Academic Affairs Office, Song Junbo, founder and CEO of Classin, as well as experts, scholars and education administrators from Peking University, Fudan University, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, and Classin participated in the activity, sharing and exchanging ideas. It provides new ideas and methods for the reform of higher education. The forum was chaired by Wu Xiaoling, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Zhiyuan College.
Artificial intelligence leads education into a new stage of development
The development of artificial intelligence and the training of top-notch talents are mutually promoting, and we should not only pay attention to how technology supports talent training, but also think about how to promote the high-quality development of AI through talent training.
Professor Zhou Yongfeng welcomed the arrival of the experts, saying that in recent years, with the great richness of digital resources, artificial intelligence can match learning resources more quickly and accurately according to the background and foundation of different learners, and provide personalized and accurate learning platforms and content for learners. He pointed out that artificial intelligence and the cultivation of top-notch innovative talents have a natural connection, complementing, motivating and iterating each other. It is hoped that through this seminar, we can fully exchange innovative ideas, especially integrate the development views of enterprises, and provide new ideas and methods for the reform of higher education.
The advent of AIGC is another milestone in the history of artificial intelligence.
Looking back at the development of artificial intelligence technology, it has experienced the development stage of the era of computational intelligence - the era of perceptual intelligence - the era of cognitive intelligence. In the past, AI was biased towards analytical capabilities, and now AI has the ability to train data and generate algorithms. AIGC means that AI has the ability to create content for the first time, and it will revolutionize content creation, automatically generating text, images, music and videos.
Shen Hongxing, Director of the Education Technology Center at SJTU, believes that AIGC is already changing the basic productivity tools and will next change the production relations of society. "When AI is applied to education, it will transform the binary (teacher-student) teaching model into a triadic (teacher-machine-student) or quadadic (teacher-machine-student-environment) teaching model."
With the great abundance of digital resources, artificial intelligence has also demonstrated a strong ability in realizing efficient adaptive learning. Artificial intelligence can match learning resources more quickly and accurately according to the background and foundation of different learners, and provide personalized and precise effect feedback and path recommendation based on learners' behavioral data.
But university teachers should also be aware that AI is not a panacea. AI is better at solving "complex" problems that have rules to follow and a huge amount of work, but it is also less good at solving "difficult" problems that are highly abstract and require a flash of inspiration. Therefore, the use of AI also needs HI (Human Intelligence) supplement.
"The more ubiquitous AI becomes, the more attention needs to be paid to the need for HI. AI and HI are complementary, AI promotes talent training, and in turn, excellent talents will promote the high-quality development of AI. Whoever can combine AI and HI well will be better able to become the next world center of higher education and talent, "Shen Hongxing said.
Wang Hongdong, Deputy Director of the Academic Affairs Office of SJTU, introduced that in order to promote the deep integration of AI with teaching, practice and management, the school is actively promoting 10 actions to empower education and teaching with "AI+HI".
The action revolves around the two levels of "knowledge integration" and "technology integration". At the level of knowledge integration, the following measures are taken: focusing on the cultivation of AI underlying technology innovation leaders to build AI majors; AI+ professional reform promotes the deep integration of artificial intelligence with different disciplines; Actively explore AI+ micro majors to promote deep cultivation in different vertical fields; Construction of AI general courses to build a wider range of AI knowledge literacy.
At the level of technology integration, the measures include: build an open AI-enabled teaching system of "teacher-student-machine-environment" and form a teaching ecosystem of close collaboration; create a digital intelligent teaching space, reshape the new teacher-student relationship and teaching form; form AI norms in university governance scenarios, utilize the transformative potential of AI, and cultivate high-level professionals with rule of law awareness and ethics.
Technological innovation always leads the way, but this shall be applied in an actual classroom for technology to really make a difference. Gu Yan, Co-founder of ClassIn and an alumnus of SJTU, added, "Technological innovation is always the first step, then, technology can shine in every class, every teacher's blackboard writing, every student's speech and every teaching interaction."
