Modular tensor category not only bridges representations of many algebraic structures such as finite groups, Lie algebras and quantum groups, but also has applications in topological invariants of 3D manifolds, topological orders and quantum computations. In this chalk talk, I will start from the concept of modular tensor category and introduce a few examples coming from representation theory. As an application, I will briefly explain how modular tensor category can be used to perform quantum computations. I will also discuss some open problems related to modular tensor categories, including construction, classification and reconstruction problems.
